Tabriz and Shanghai agree to be sister cities


Iraj Shahin Baher, mayor of Tabriz, announced the initial compromise on signing sisterhood contract between Tabriz and Shanghai.
“This issue was discussed in a meeting of Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel, president of high ranking Expediency Discernment Council of the System with Jou Houi Leen, Minister of Communications and advertising of the Chinese ruling party in Shanghai,” the mayor said.
“The sisterhood contract with Shanghai, if determined, is counted as one of the most important sister cities of Tabriz metropolis,” the mayor stated.
Later he reiterated that realizing this issue will be a gateway for the development of relations between Tabriz and China in the cultural and social fields.
Iraj Shahin Baher, notifying that the memorandum of understanding could provide various opportunities for bilateral cooperation between two countries, stated that the municipality of Tabriz, while taking experiences of china, seeks to use Shanghai's experiences in urban management and the development of communications in this area.



Pointing to the Tabriz sisterhood contracts with 9 cities of Baku and Ganja( Azerbaijan), Istanbul and Erzurum( Turkey), Gaza( Palestine), holy Karbala( Iraq), Mogilev( Belarus), Kazan( Tatarstan), Khujand ( Tajikistan), the mayor stressed that with the efforts and followings of the head office of communications and Int’l affairs,  Shanghai as 10th  sister city of Tabriz will be the most significant one.
Shanghai is one of the four municipalities under the direct administration of the central government of the People's Republic of China, the largest city in China by population, and the second most populous city proper in the world, with a population of 24.18 million as of 2017. It is a global financial center and transport hub, with the world's busiest container port. Located in the Yangtze River Delta, it sits on the south edge of the estuary of the Yangtze in the middle portion of the West China coast. In the other words, this city is the connecting point of china with the world. In 2018, based on world financial indexes, Shanghai was introduced as the 5th valuable city of the world.
Shanghai has sisterhood contracts with about 80 significant cities of the world such as Milan, Italy, San Francisco, United States, Prague, Czech Republic, Hamburg, Germany, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Barcelona, Spain to name a few.
